What happened in July?

Stormy days and beautiful sunshine winter days - the past month brought us the best of both worlds!! Happy trail runners in rain and sunshine! The Cape Multi Facebook Group is growing and growing - makes sure that you keep an eye on the news feed as some runs or get togethers are informally organised.

The Paarl Rock Trail Run at the beginning if the month was a great success with CMC and Durbac trail junkies enjoying a beautiful day out. Moving over to the wild side, the Peltz Wolfpack Trail Run kicked off with a enthusiastic 'Awooooooooo' and  great running on the Stellenbosch Golf Course! Thank you to Cape Town Running Company who spoilt us with entries to give away as competition prizes!

Bastille Day Trail Run pushed our mountain goats to their limits - splashing through cold rivers and connecting with the friendly neighbourhood guerrilla.  Following all this fun, it was time to get a little bit more serious (yes, just a little) and commit to the Love our Trails initiative - cleaning up Platteklip Gorge. CMC trail junkies did an awesome job of sweeping at the back and still found lots and lots (and lots) of rubbish under trees, bushes, in streams. Climbing like monkeys up and down, while doing our bit for nature and our beautiful mountain brought home how lucky we are to live in this amazing place. But it also reminded how small we are as humans and how important it is that we look after our planet! Please go LIKE the Love our Trails FB page (link: and join us for the next event!!

The Spur Winter Trail Series is also in full swing - please keep painting those hills RED!! The new club kit including buffs looks amazing on the trails!

The monthly Run for a Cause Awareness Trail Run was dedicated to Corporate Wellness - dressed in their best ties, runners raised awareness of how difficult it

can be to balance work, friends and family life! Thank you USN for sponsoring the goody bags and spoiling our fantastic multi-taskers!!

Last but not least - our red jackets arrived and you all look spectacular!! Go red army!! Please contact Estelle Kock to order your jacket!!

What is happening in August…

Every Wednesday Evening - Giving back to the Community:

Calling all ladies! Bronwyn Franchi is collecting old running shoes, clothes and basic toiletries for young women who have survived trauma. They are participating in a research programme that includes counselling and self-care through exercise. If you are able to donate items, you can pass these onto Anton Franchi at the Wednesday trail events or you can inbox her and she will arrange to collect.

Thank you for your generosity thus far, the response has been amazing!! Let’s give these women the gift of running!

** If you have a project that gives back to the community – feel free to send me the information. I will gladly include it in the newsletter.

 How Running Changed My Life

Morne Laurie was nominated by Peter van Wyk - thank you Peter for nominating this CMC hero, as well as Morne for writing this motivational piece for the newsletter! What a great read!!

Elke dag sonder uitsondering vroeg of laat. Soms so vroeg as 4:00 am en sommige aande na 20:00, maar hardloop het ek gehardloop. So het my metamorfose van 90kg na 'n 76kg Comrades Atleet gevolg.  Vandag is hardloop my lewe. Ek is geseënd met goeie vriende en 'n vrou wat jaarliks saam met my die Marathon-seisoen aandurf.

Danie Bruwer was my dryfkrag en ek is so bly dat ek ʼn mede-atleet soos Peter van Wyk kon motiveer om sy lewe te kon verander.

Ek wens almal gesonde kilometers toe.

Vriendelike groete,

Morne Laurie

** Write your story or nominate a friend that inspires you – I will contact them and twist their arm to give their motivational story a go!! It is not about boasting or thinking you are better than others. It’s about motivating others to change their lives, we have all had to start somewhere – Thinking “If he/she can do it, then I can too!!”

Now go there out, have adventures, make special memories and have a wonderful August!
