Deep End

They say the best way to learn how to swim is to be thrown into the deep end. I was asked by the CMC Committee to take over the Captaincy Role for road running, until our AGM at the end of March, and it was a case of sink or swim!

Before I go on, I want to thank Captain Kurt for his dedication and unselfish way he contributed to the successes of our club, in the last year.

Kurt, you are not just a friend but an inspiration to so many of us. Your contribution, hard work and friendliness has made Cape Multisport Club one of the best running clubs in the Western Cape.

While Kurt is taking a well-deserved break, it is my privilege to keep the Red Army marching on. I am looking forward to the challenge, but must also say that I cannot do it on my own. Each and every member’s contribution is appreciated.

Please do not hesitate to send me suggestions or ideas.

Looking back to the start of the year:

Some of us took a well-deserved break over December, and other just carried on. Either way, our 1st big Race in January was Nutribullet Bay to Bay 15/30km.

January started off with a bang, with races every weekend and a mid-week 15km, in the form of the Dan Luyt.

Red Hill and Kloof Nek Classic were also well-supported by CMC runners.

February started with the KFC Brackenfell 10km. A couple of PBs tumbled on this Wednesday afternoon!

Our race of the month was the Peninsula Marathon & Half Marathon. What a windy affair!!! Conrad Koorts was the host of the day and a special thank-you to Conrad, as he braved the wind. Your effort does not go unnoticed.

Then, it was time to take over Oudshoorn for the Cango Marathon! We painted the town red! The perfect running conditions contributed to some amazing personal bests being achieved. Neil Broers and Danie Bruwer ran the 42.2km under 3 hours. (An average pace of 4.12min/km). There are too many other achievements to mention. Congratulations to each one running the races on the day!

Thank you to Charl and Lisa for setting up the Gazebo at the finish.

Our abilities as athletes differ. We have some serious fast runners in our club, and those who get “value for money” by spending a lot of time on the road.

It is sometimes difficult to cater for all speeds at our Pack Runs.

That is why we have instituted a “FETCHING RULE”

How does this work?

The front runners run at their pace, and every now and then turn around and run back to the back markers of the pack.

We proud ourselves as a social club and by doing this we cater for all at our pack runs.

The most important factor, however, is that those at the back feel safe and do not get lost.

I urge all our faster runners to adhere to this rule.

Time Trial

Our Time Trial takes place on the 1st Tuesday of every month at the PP Smit Grounds.

Warming Up start at 17:45 with the TT kicking off at 18:00

This is a great way to test your improvement.

Join us for a Steri Afterwards.

Race of the month

We have picked a race per month where we will have our Gazebo with Sterries, water and a place to chill together. We do however need members to host these events.

Here is the list for the year. Please let me know which race YOU would like to host!
